Human Environment Interactions
Ancient Egyptians really used the lay of the land to their advantage. They took advantage of anything they could, such as the Nile River or the deserts. Here are some ways that they adapted, modified, and depended on the environment, wildlife, and climate.
Adapted - Ancient Egyptians, and some modern day Egyptians made their houses out of mud brick. This type of wall is moist and is an extremely good way to keep their houses cool on a hot day. They also may have slept on their roofs on a hot night. Ancient Egyptians had roof vents that allowed any type of heat to escape the house or den.
Modified - Ancient Egyptians really had a skill in architecture. The pyramids and temples are some of the most famous architectural wonders of the world. The Pyramids of Giza are one of the 7 Man Made Wonders of the World. The Sphinx was an idol, representing quite a few of their gods. Unfortunately, the nose was removed in the 8th century AD, proved by rough chisel marks on the remains of the nose.
Depended - The Ancient people of Egypt depended on the lay of the land in many ways. First of all, they used the Nile River for bathing, washing of clothes, fishing for food, and recreation. they used the fertile soil along the banks of the Nile for growing and raising crops and livestock such as cattle, horses, donkeys, and pigs. They used the deserts around them for protection from hostile neighboring tribes and/or civilizations.
